well i guess Ill start a thread on this years open but last year only got one reply back from Roy. Who does everone like this time around? Im going with Luke Donald. he is playing great. I look for Dustin Johnson to bounce back from his 2 disappointing outings in last years majors. Im pulling for him. Phi Mick who knows what game he will bring? He alawys says he is hitting the ball the best he ever has and is putting well then flops usually.. Exception being his masters win. Got to root for my two hometown boys Nick Watney and Spencer Levine. I think both of these guys have got the game to do it. But the eurporean contingent is going to be tough. Saw where they said if american doest not win this open the Europeans will hold the last 5 majors. That hasnt been done since 1934. Will an american win? Let the games begin. who does everyone like?

Gary

You would think Luke Donald would be the pick , but the course is really lonnnggggg. He can get really wayward to the left at times off the tee and he's not a long hitter , so i'm not sure it's his time to shine. Weird how they are not talking much about Dustin Johnson. Maybe he can jump in there with that new caddie and get it done. He has not been much of a factor this season though .......can he putt well enough ???

Phil has not played very well at this venue , so you would think he will flounder in this one. He could surprise everyone and take his first U.S. Open this week......or flounder.
I like Matt Kucher and Hunter Mahan in this one. You can't ignore Steve Stricker , but can he play big in a major ?
I imagine everyone likes Westwood , but he gets nervous on Sunday in these things. Hard not to pick him though. Nobody talking about Furyk and McDowell is off the beam.......then you have K.J. Choi.

Watney could put it together ...i like him , but he gets a little tight down the stretch.

Sleepers......they are ALL sleepers fer cryin out loud ! Maybe Rory McIlroy , Rickie Fowler , and Gary Woodland.

Longshot.......Mark Wilson.

Donald and Westwoo have never won a major so they have that against them. All the prognisticators are talking up Els so he is dead. Is Stricker long enough? I hope so. Will Freddie's caddie make a difference with Johnson? He sure has been through the wars before. It is going to be a long, tough, hot grind. They were showing a hole that if you are on the wrong part of the green or just off, the ball will roll 16' into pine straw. So recovery might be a huge factor...Phil?

I see Donald, Westwood and Mickelson fighting this out in the end, maybe even entering the mix are these two very solid US open players in Cabrera and Goosen.

Yep. I like to see pros suffer.

We suck at picking this stuff.

Big question is, will McIlroy self implode by Sunday afternoon?

I just switched him to active so the 92 is a given. The top is starting to look a little more familiar. Robert Rock would be quite a story if he won.

Haven't had a chance to watch much of it but from what I have seen I'm REALLY impressed with McIlroy. I think "Zinger's" comment was particularly apt when he said after a melt-down like Rory had at the Masters, many players would take years before they put themselves back in a position to win but risk failure. Said Rory has taken his Masters collapse as a learning experience and has jumped right back into contention. He's a very poised young man IMHO - well beyond his years.
And nice to see to see Lefty have a good round and get back into the mix. Don't think - yet- he can win it,
but with that short game when the conditions get tough? Just somebody/anybody tell him when it's time to take his foot off the gas
Unfortunately, I'm not going to see the end of it - I'll be in the air on my way to Nashville for my next assignment -DAMN! Guess I'll have to see the highlights when I get into my hotel Sunday night............
Cheers............Tele
