Anyone watching this installment? I am and it is interesting as they changed up how they get down to the final 12. Evety once in a blue moon I see a performance on there that gives me the chills and goosebumps. last week I saw one of those. It was by the 16 year old Alison who sang "Alone" by Heart. I knew nothing about this girl as I did not remember her from the auditions or the hollywood shows. They did the little video package thing before she performed and nothing stood out and I was not thrilled with the initial attitude that I saw, so I was not expecting much and sort of wishing for a so so perfomance for her since there were others I liked this week that I wanted to see go through. Then she blew me away with the tone of her voice and the power of her voice when the song picked up. Here is agirl that had NO singing experience before Idol and someone that you could still tell was a little nervouse performing in front of a large audience. Kudos the her and I hope she keeps coming through. Here is a youtube link (audio only) with judges comments. Audio quality starts off excellent but loses a bit in the middle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5F8iVKbnt4

Well, alright I'll confess that we watch this show as well. While we all have different tastes in music and style I am one of those who was a David Archuletta fan. I'm that stodgy conservative guy who likes to see the image of today's youth be held to higher standards so most times I'm underwhelmed by what I see put forth. While I did like David Cook too I was secretly pulling for Archuletta. I thought he was just incredible! Sad to hear his Dad is such a jerk.
IMHO: This season hasn't really shown much yet. It's early yet but I don't see anything that lights me up. The blonde girl with the red streak that the panel goes on and on and on about.....I thought she was range bound. I just didn't care much for her. While I was intrigued by the bonde with the ugly tatooed arm, the panel passed on her. I suspect we'll see her back in it before this is over though. I thought she was unique in a retro-way. Your redhead is alright but I personally think she lacks style...that orangatange hair color of hers is just horrific ...probably even a wig since I didn't see any part in her hair. It's judged on the voice but we'll see if she can sing something other than belt out a rock solo soon.
I'm just not seeing anything that reallly excites me much.....

Hey Roy Gotta agree with you on Alison. She did a great job and surprised me as well. There are several artist whose songs contestants should never choose, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and Nancy Wilson among them. They're all power voices. Nancy Wilson and Celine Dion, in particular, can go from a whisper to shaking the walls in a single note. When they announced Alison was going to do Alone I said to my wife and son, "She's doomed. Nobody can do Heart except Nancy Wilson herself!" Boy, was I wrong. The kid flat nailed it. Look for her to go deep into the competition. JMHO Tele

I'm just not seeing anything that reallly excites me much..... I also liked the blonde girl with the tattoos on the arm, she should have went through. I too believe she will be back as one of the wildcard picks. I thought the kid who did man in the mirror, did a good job with it and I did not like Adam singing satisfaction. Don't know why America likes him. Going back to last year, I liked Archuletta, despite my daughter being over obsessed about him. I liked Cook in the competition, but can't stand his songs that have come out since. I'm never a fan of someone singing different types of songs then they were before they were on Idol/ Same goes for Chris Daughtry.

JMHO Tele I agree with you on what artist you NEVER sing on Idol. I also thought the same thing when I heard she was singing alone.

Well, it looks like we're on the same page. I liked that kid's effort on "Man in the Mirror" too and most of the things he's done so far. We'll see where it all goes from here.

The had 36 left, then the last two weeks they took the top male vote getter, the top female vote getter and the third highest overall vote getter. As of date the have filled out 6 out of the final 12 spots. This week the last set of 12 from the original 36 will compete, giving us 3 more (9 total) of the final 12. Then next week they will use high vote getters from the previous 3 weeks who did not make the top 3 in the episode they competed and the will duke it out as a second chance competition to fill the last 3 spots for the final 12. I really like this idea as it gives some talented people who may have had an off week or that the viewers overlooked another chance to get were they belong in the final 12.
