Again, the Boeing Classic was voted best tournament on the Seniors Tour by the players. Second yeard in a row we've won. Makes you feel good to be recognized.

Give them good Washington wines;-)

News from there today is that they have an elk problem. They mess up the greens and fairways so they are going to let them be hunted. Have seen lots of deer there but never an elk. Could be interesting with houses on every hole.

We have a problem near here with Elk on the Estes Park G.C. . They are very heavy and like to get on the greens. They fence off the greens and cover them during the Winter.

I have been charged twice by elk on that course. Had to wield my nine iron and yell at one to get it to stop once. Learned to give them a wide berth . The bulls are very protective of the cows......kind of like a redneck bar in western Colorado.....you have to be very careful. People from the flatlands are captivated by them , but i think they are a pain in the ass. They do quite a bit of damage and they have a bad attitude. They are almost as bad as those " Occupy" sheitheads........but not as dirty and ugly. :)

I've been to Estes park, long ago when we stayed in Steamboat. Didn't realize there was a course there. Would have let the kids go on the rides and played;-) Not long after we were there a coaster car came off the tracks...some didn't survive.
I've seen them at Alderbrook only here, more on the penninsula. Deer every where but the city courses and reservations.

Yeah....it's an 18 hole course on the eastern side of town. Nice views and a really fun course that's harder than it looks. The old log clubhouse is a great place for a drink afterward and the food is not bad. I usually play the course a couple of times a year...busy in summer , but not nearly as expensive as most mountain golf in the state.

I spent many days climbing on Lumpy Ridge north of town and on other crags in the vicinity. Estes was one of the first courses i played when i took up the game ....must be 25 years ago ! Didn't play very much in those years ....and certainly , didn't play WELL.
The elk are usually kind of docile.....unless they are rutting , or drinking heavily. :)
Worth playing if you ever get back Hips.

When I left Steamboat at about 6 am and headed west, I went over a hill on a 2 lane road a little over the speed limit. Got nailed and when I sent the check in I told them how much I spent and would be back to do it again...if they didn't cash the check. They did and I haven't spend a cent of my money there even though I've been back at least 3 times.
Grat trip with the kids, visited Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman and Dinosaur National Monument. All as Jurassic Park came out.

Steamboat has gone the way of Aspen. I remember when it was a real cowboy town that had a ski resort. A little rough around the edges , but a fun town. Now it's been taken over by people with money and you can't find a cup of coffee for less than four dollars.

Most mountain towns have gone that way. Come spend your money and we'll tack on a speeding ticket on your way out ! West of town towards Craig at 6 am........couldn't have been 2 cars on that highway.....that's really rubbing it in.
Really good little golf course in Craig , CO by the way...... Yampa Valley G.C. .
6500-6600 yards from the tips and kind of strategic off the tees. Plenty of trees and trouble, fast greens and the food is palatable . Not expensive and worth a stop.

The only 2 were me and the cop. That's to bad about the way the town has gone. It was probably 20 years ago, just after my divorce. Was thinking about going back since I have a timeshare place there. Remember visiting a small town named Clark close to there. General store was about all there was.

I went through Clark a couple of years ago. Came from the north after a trip through the Snowy Mountains in Wyoming. Still a very small place...nice little cafe north of there at Hahns Peak , near the reservoir .

Haymaker is the course in Steamboat that i have not played. Just east of town below Rabbit Ears Pass. A Keith Foster design that is on my list to play.
Rollingstone Ranch ....up near the ski area is , not my cup of tea....runs through the housing ...costs too much...snobby. Little course just east of town...Steamboat Golf Club...is a short and very tight 9 hole course that now costs too much for what you get. Design is a bit funky , but it's kind of quaint. Better to play Yampa Valley in Craig on the way west........very good.
