Did anyone watch that television show a few years called "Commander in Chief" with Geena Davis and Donald Sutherland? It was an excellent show that unfortunately could not garner sufficient ratings so it ended up being canceled. It was about the Vice Preseident of the U.S. (Davis) who ended up being the President after the death of her boss in mid term.

As we look into the future going beyond the upcoming presidential election, are we possibly heading into a scenario of reality imitating fiction? If John McCain wins next month and is the new President of the United States, this possibility stated above in the TV show is real and this is what puts me into a little confusion on my vote next month. McCain is 72 and is certainly at somewhat significant risk of passing away while in office. We then have Sarah Palin as his VP, who would then become the new President if McCain was to expire. McCain is my front runner for President as it stands right now. My problem with this ticket is Palin. I have no problem with a sufficiently qualified qualified woman being vice President or President of the United States, but Palin in my mind is NO WAY qualified to be President or even remotely oomes close enough as being experienced enough.
What then? Sure she will be guided by a cabinet that McCain chose, but what if she wants to be sort of a maverick and do things her own way? What will other countries think of her? What will terrorists think of her? The concerns to me are quite alarming.
I guess just like the TV show, she may start off showing her mettle and worth and become a viable President. But then again the TV show was canceled and we never knew how Genna's character would have evolved or self destructed. We don't have script writers to write the outcome if Palin was in charge, bui then even if we did, they would probably go on strike sometime during her term. LOL
What are your thoughts? Am I overreacting to something that "might" happen? Have you thought of this as a concern?
We are in a time that we need a special President who can actually make a difference. I don't think Obama think or McCain are that person, so does it really matter how qualified Palin is?
We are in bad times, would she make even that much worse?

My two cents, and it's probably worth about that much........ I have garnered the same concerns, and have come down to it is more about who surrounds the President than the President him/Herself. I think that our current President has made some huge blunders in who he choose to surround him, which in turn has led to his current standing, and current status on decision making. He has a few good people and I think made a good choice in General Patraises (sp) but that is about it.

I think what we currently have is two campaigns running. IMO, McCain PROBABLY should have been President in 2000. Obama is a very intelligent man and with a little more seasoning, could waltz into the White House in 2012, so NEITHER of them are the right ones right now. Honestly, I'm not sure who is the right one! I am getting the feeling that Sara is positioning herself for the 2012 race. I look back at her speech and her debate and really don't see too much adding to the current ticket, but adding to or strengthening the party, if that makes sense.

If McCain/Palin is elected, and McCain puts a good Cabinet in place, we will be alright no matter what happens. I really think the British have one up on us as the Prime Minister candidates have to announce who they will put in place before the election, where we elect the President and they can bring in anyone they want! I think the Republican Party is behind the positioning of Palin, but looking at her record, I believe she would try to do what is right for the country, and I believe she would continue what McCain starts out to do.

What will others think, I think if she ends up in the oval office, she will be tested and pushed, and if she has the right people around her she will be fine, but no one can say who will be around her. She did stand up to those in Alaska, including Big Oil, who nobody messes with, so she has that going for her.

Some very good thoughts in both post !!!! And no Roy, IMO your not overreacting at all. "Anything" can happen to a President as well as any of us. "If" something were to happen we do need to think of "Who" would take over. !!!! It really is a very tough decision with this election, the way our country in in really makes the decision that much harder.

I see things from both sides that I like and would really matter to all of us. The thing is, "WHO" can really get it done ??? At this point I am not sure either can, and with the state we are in is there really time to "Change" things or just to try and pull us out of a deep hole ???

IMO, each side only has one person "Almost" qualified to do the job !!!!!

The election scares me, both national and in our state. I just know we need to change the direction we have been going the last 8 years. Also the more I learn about Palin, the more she scares me.
I agree that how a president governs has a lot to do with those around him and that is Bush's downfall. the information fed the leader is vital. In today's world, the reaction time is cut down to hours instead of months or weeks. Correct, unbiased information is crucial to correct responses, whether financial problems or political.

Lack of experience, the way she dodges questions, appealing to a "higher authority" for help, difficulties she has had in Alaska, questionable billing to the state, for starters

Lack of experience is a big factor, IMO with both tickets. In hearing her, I did not really care for the way she diverted questions to an area which was her strength, such as energy, maybe the same as dodging questions. I think they all ask/want/need/hope for help from a higher authority. I had heard of some issues in Alaska, but it seems they are not talked about very much, I would have thought that they would have come out if they were major issues.

It seems that I've heard about Obamas birth certificate as much as the issues in Alaska. Neither has been settled to my knowledge, and I really don't follow politics that closely.

Actually out of the debate, I did not see much done for the ticket on her part, but I think she did a lot to sure up her creditability. Biden over performed and greatly exceeded expectations.
