A decision to play for New Zealand rather than turn professional right after his US Amateur win cost Rotorua golfer Danny Lee more than $100 million. The world number one amateur has revealed to The Daily Post that a commitment to play for New Zealand saw him decline sponsorship offers of more than $100m to turn professional immediately following his US Amateur title win last August. His estimated worth has since halved and 18-year-old Lee has had reason to regret his decision after being slammed for a poor performance for his country at the Eisenhower Trophy (World Teams Championships).

IF he turned down $100 million to play for anybody it was a stupid decision! Just as hmmmmmmmmm, and I know it's been 12 years, but Tiger only got $20 million initial endorsement bucks. Even with inflation do you really think Lee was offered $100 million? Maybe one too many zeros in the article?? I think I'm going to call bullshit on this one!!!

I second that bullshit. He doesn't have the name recognition to garner that kind of dough........ Unless Madoff was trying to get rid of some of that 50 billion before they close in on him. Who the heck IS Danny Lee anyway ?

Danny was this years U.S. amateur champion. This is the only time i have seen him play and he was very impressive. He was knocking down the pin on just about every hole it seemed. i also wonder where that 100 million dollar figure came from. Probably his agent. If he he can play like that in the pro"s like he did in the US amateur he will do very well. But as we all know the pro"s is a horse of diffrent color. How many times have we seen someone with a ton of ability fall flat on their face. Time will tell for Danny. I hope he does well.

He seems like a very nice, very talented kid, and i wish him well. He played "decent" in a pro event or two, but he's no 100 million dollar baby!!

We'll see how he looks after he hits Tigers prop wash a couple of times. :-} After Michelle Wie I doubt anyone will drop a killer contract on a rookie anytime soon.
