Folks - Do yourselves a favour and go onto YouTube and search "Jackie Evancho, Barbra Streisand, Somewhere". If what you hear doesn't bring the hairs up on the back of your neck you have no emotions. This is an 11-year old child singing with, in my not-so-humble musician's opinion, one of the greatest power voices in history - and she nails it - with soul! Jackie hits a descant note (harmony above soprano) just before they go int the duet that makes be shiver it's so impossibly high, yet dead-on true. Then matches Barbra's improv in the duet. (Of course they rehearsed it!!!) I saw a clip from Sharon Osborne's show and, apparently, Barbra asked for the duet for Jackie's new CD. This performance was from the live promo concert. Barbra couldn't be there due to scheduling so her part was "satellited" in on the screens behind Jackie. Interesting - someone on-line mentions, that, as Barbra's image fades back against the backdrop of the world, she holds out her hand as if to say, "my time is done, now the world is yours!" This little girl has, and is, a rare gift. She brings tears to my eyes. (But then, I'm a sappy musician............................ I hope you appreciate it as much as I do. Tele

I just hope she doesn't get burnt out. Parents are marketing her pretty hard. I dearly hope they give her time to be an 11-year old little girl and to enjoy all that goes with that. Tele

Resurrecting an old post......................
Saw a news Micro-dcoumentary on why this little girl has such an adult voice. Stuff like - are her vocal cords longer than normal, hence the adult voice? Is her throat larger..................
All wrong. Scientist interviewed on TV has worked with her and says she is a true genius - on the level of a Carl Sagen, Albert Einstein, Steven Hawking. Difference is, instead of making astounding mathematical computations or understanding time or the origins of the Universe, her talents lie in music. She hears and can reproduce perfect pitch and has the ability control her breathing and the tension on her vocal cords to produce the note she hears in her head.
Said he can't really comment on how she can produce such volume for her small size other than, perhaps, through constant practice, she has developed the lung capacity to pitch when she needs to.
Interesting.............................chuck
