For over 20 years now, I have frequented the same golf store. They have been in business just over 25 years, and I have been shopping there almost since day one. I've gone to others in the area, but have always preferred this one. They are family-owned, have a great and varied inventory, a teaching center with Class A pros, knowledgeable sales staff, excellent repair shop, and are honest business people.

One of the programs they have is what they call a Golf Nut program, where, if you sign up, during the calendar year all sales are tracked, and during month of January, of the following year, they award 5% of the previous year's purchase dollars which may be redeemed for anything in the store.

This year they added an additional perk to the Golf Nut program. Last week I received a special invitation in the mail to attend a private appreciation event for their top 100 customers from the previous year. (fortunately for them, and unfortunately for my wallet) I was one of those number. ;)

The event took place between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. last evening. It was a nice event with food and snacks and soft drinks supplied. Also, they were offering a free launch monitor session and a free golf lesson. I took advantage of both! :D
I'm not unhappy with my driver, at all, but I did find one head and shaft combination that improved my numbers compared to the one I hit (yes, I'd brought mine with me).

For many years, I had taken lessons from their head pro, who I liked very much, but he retired about a year ago, and went into a totally non-golf related business. Their current head pro I had met but had never taken a lesson from. Last night I took advantage of the free offer (and there was no time limit imposed) and had about a 20-minute video lesson with him. I really liked him and his approach. I informed him of my "tendencies" but that I'd worked on them over time, and really just wanted to see if they'd improved, stayed the same, or gotten worse, as I'd become very inconsistent over the last 3-4 months. In a few minutes we determined that my main problem, of bringing the club way to far inside on the takeaway had improved greatly, but now my swing had become much too long and I was way across the line at the top, and even though I was able to "most of the time" return the club to the slot and recover on the downswing, there was a good chance that was my problem with inconsistency. He then worked with me on a cure, and in that 20 minutes I knew what I had to to and how to do it. Not bad for free!!

I also perused all the "new" stuff, had a nice visit with both the brother owners, some nice snacks, decided to save my Golf Nut money until sometime in January, and, upon leaving, was given a sleeve of the balls I play!!
All in all, a very nice evening.

Obviously, they still understand customer relations and service, traits which have allowed them to continue to prosper through the downturn in general in the golf business and the general business downturn of late.

I love my golf store! :D

Man, sounds like a great place! I wish they would open up where I live. We hae several Golf Stores, but nothing like that, with those types of people. Most of ours have teenagers working in there and sometimes I would wonder if they had EVER been on a golf course. All they wanted to do was tape a club up so you could hit it, knew nothing about it or about the swing. Most have pros on staff but you never see them and if you do they never make eye contact.

Sounds like a wonderful place and they are lucky to have good customers like you!

How cool is that!!!!!

Sounds like they have their heads on straight and take good care of the folks who pay the bills. Nice to find in this day and age.

Later,

Sounds very much like the store I frequent, www.puetzgolf.com They even have the same cash back program. Don't know about the top 100 since I've never spent that much there. Maybe they have some nationwide association of independent golf dealers.
