Fire destroying houses over the ridge just south of me. Smoke was really bad two days ago , but not as much now. ( Breathed smoke for about a day and a half.) My lungs are giving me some problems . Something like 135 houses burned so far. I was thinking of volunteering to help , but my lungs feel really constricted . Lots of people lost everything they own. I might be able to provide transportation for some people or something , but i need to be out of that smoke plume.

That is unreal, think the last count I saw was up to 168. Hope it stays away from you, I know how that smoke works on the lungs.

I had a punctured lung years ago and i have a mild case of asthma after a bout with bronchitis a few years back. The result has been a decrease in lung function , which has not been much of a problem , but the smoke seems to have an effect. 169 houses ....but they say the count is all messed up. I imagine guys have enough problems fighting the fire without having to count destroyed houses. They had to get out quick , so some people have lost everything they had aquired for their entire lives. Some really nice houses in that area......really sad.

Back to what this thread is about. What IS this thread about ? .........Oh yeah..."It's that time of year again." It was June when Gary posted that theme ; but it's always "that" time of year to play golf. That time of year is now autumn. A wonderful time to travel and play the game. I have tentative plans to head south to see an old friend who has a vacation place on a lake in Oklahoma. He is now one of those Dallas sophisticates ; so i'll have to be on my best behavior.....i'll hhafta warsh the bib overalls and none of that mouth organ music. I plan to stop in Trinidad , CO to play Cougar Canyon Golf Course again. I played the first nine several years ago in the wind. It's a Jack Nicklaus design . Really interesting ( tough) golf and they have some good specials most of the time. There is also a local nine holer that the locals rave about. I'll play some down in Okie territory and hope to stop by Miss Kitty's place in Dodge City on the way back. ( Haven't been to Dodge since Matt told me to get out of Dodge.)
I'm playing better golf this season , so naturally i expect to set course records everywhere i stop. ( Just what KIND of records .....i'm not sayin.) I've been in the low to mid 80's doldrums , but i'm hitting the ball pretty well. Need to believe in my game a little more and shoot a low score.......easier said than done. I look forward to continuing my command of the 19th hole. It's demanding ....but somebody has to do it.

I also had asthma, but have mostly outgrown it. Quite bad as a kid. Sounds like you won't have much fun on your trip Got conscripted to start the school year at one of the better schools in the area, so 8 days of work, then on to a cruise. It was rainy this week so it didn't matter. Wonder if they will have a place to hit balls on the cruise? I figure each day I work is a months green fees The guy that did my hips also does knees and is very good. Good luck with that.

Sounds great Hips. I have never been on a cruise.......unless cruising bars in Leadville , Colorado counts. I grew up with the guy i'm going to see in Oklahoma. We were like brothers as kids in the sixties. I spent more time at his house than i did at my own. We are going fishing. As kids we were pretty good athletes , but two of the worst fishermen on the planet. In fact ; we never caught a fish when we fished together. We are hoping to keep our perfect record intact. He's a lawyer ....but i'm willing to overlook that fact , as long as the beer is cold.
