Wow, what a first day.

Freddie shooting a 66
Watson shooting a 67
Tiger shooting a 68, never thought he could shoot that low his first round back, especially with the greens of Augusta. He missed quite a few putts, could have shot a 63 or 64.
Mickelsom shoots a 67, finally found his game.

Tiger's recovery shot on 9, WOW!!!

Can't wait for Day 2.

It was a pretty wild second round also...too bad Watson and Couples had to fade a little, but they are both still in it.

Tiger is still only two shots back, despite the fact that his game doesn't appear to be all there yet.

Phil now seems to be shooting very well all of a sudden...he couldn't have picked a better time.

This Masters has the makings of a great one. There are so many people in contention that right now it is nearly impossible to pick a winner.

Boy oh boy - Phil was on fire today! Although I'm a fierce Tiger fan (not a fan of his piggish behavior in his personal life, but that's another topic!!), I am really happy for Phil Mickelson. Today was a phenomenal day with back to back eagles for him! I am amazed that Tiger is in the hunt and chasing everyone! Even if he doesn't win his fifth green jacket, he is showing the world that he's baaaaaaaaaack! ;)
And I think in their heart of hearts, the other players are glad that he's back, too. He sure brings the fans back and he's a delight to watch in action. YUM!
Bring it on, everybody! Let's see some more wicked cool golf!

Finally got to watch more than just a few minutes here and there, yesterday. Westwood was on fire in the early part of the day - then came lefty. Wow! Westwood has more than enough experience to not let anybody else's game get in his head but, with the fireworks display Phil put on, I can't see how he isn't hearing footsteps.
Then again, today is another day and Phil has been known to melt down on Sunday. Should be an interesting day!
Cheers
Chuck

Well, I guess those foot steps became the sound of a runaway freight train - and that's NOT to take anything away from Lee. Phil's just drivin' on through - pushin' anything and everything outa his way.
Diva - I was hoping to see some Tiger magic, too. I didn't expect it - he's been gone too long - but I'd still love to have seen it! And, there were few magic shots, just not like the usual..........
Cheers all -
Chuck

Phil was awesome and I like most did not see that coming this week based on previous play and the stuff going on at home. Congrats.

Lee Westwood is bcoming quite the 2nd-3rd place performer in majors, can he ever win one.

Tiger Tiger Tiger, I think he should have played a tourney before the Masters. It's just too hard to come back and play at Augusta for your first competitive rounds of golf after a long layoff. The rust showed up Saturday and Sunday, but dang did he still manage to post very good scores despite being so off on his game. No one else on the face of this planet could have mustered a -11 as out of sync Tiger was.

Freddie and Tom prove that anyone that has enough game to be the top 2-3 players on the Champions tour, can still hang with the big boys at the majors.

Hey Roy -
Got to agree with you on nearly all counts. Wouldn't have considered Phil, going in. Too much personal stress in his life and from the few snippits of his game I'd seen on TV in previous tournaments, I just didn't think his game was in any shape. Fabulous that Amy is well enough to join him and I think that might have played an important role in his win!

I, too, think Tiger would have been smarter to play one of the lesser events as a tune-up but, he said he wanted it to be The Masters for two reasons. First, it means so much that it is easier to get "up" for and second, the tight media and fan control. I think he was prepared to take the slings and arrows for his behaviour but he did mention, specifically, that he had to think of whomever was drawn with him. I heard his comment and it was to the effect, "it's hard enough for other guys to be paired with me but, in the circumstances, I wanted it to be someplace where there is a lot tighter control over the on-course media and fans. Can you imagine if it was the Open Championship where there's, what, a hundred of you guys allowed on the course INSIDE the ropes?" Good point! And, yeah, he still hit some pretty impressive shots despite being rusty and out of sync.

Freddie and Tom - what can I say? I was pullin' hard for Freddie - one of my all-time favourites. What a treat to see that effortless power again. Putter let him down - big time - on Sunday ............. and that toed 6i into the pond on 12. Just might have had a shot, otherwise. Gotta wonder how much of a factor fatigue, physical and mental, might have been. Would have been great to see either of them win it and make history. You wonder if they studied Ponce De-Leons maps and discovered there really is a "Fountain of Youth" and are holdin' out on us.

Cheers
Chuck

I was on a trip back east for the entire Masters. I tried to keep "radio silence" but , of course , that was impossible. Watched my recordings over this last weekend and , amazingly enough, PHIL WON IT AGAIN !
It was a great Masters. Many interesting story lines and Tiger right there on the first or second page. Really glad he didn't win , but it was nice to have him in the mix. I was pulling hard for Freddie , but Phil would have been my second choice among those with a chance to win. Great scene with Amy on Sunday. I become more and more a Mickelson fan.

Yeah.....he was "out of sync." He managed to get in his usual snotnosed interview when they talked to him on Sunday.
Gee Tiger....you came to win ???? We haven't heard that before ! Why don't you remind us every time you don't win that you came to win. I haven't heard that before....we need to know that you are always coming to win. You should always deliver this news in that sullen spoiled brat way that only YOU can attain.
I'm glad he's back playing golf.....and he comes to win...and i watch to see him lose. Unfortunately ; the next two majors are on courses he has wired. With any luck at all .....he will miss a few putts....hit his wedge a bit long...or come down with some vague funk that will prevent his success. He's a jerk.
