Please join me and the forum in the boycott of Jockstocks sports. They have taken the stance to honor Joe Paterno for his coaching accomplishments. I find that Joe's personal decisions and lack of judgement in not trying to put a stop to the horrible acts of child molestation by Jerry Sandusky far outweighs anything he did with coaching a football team. Jockstocks insistence to honor this person is very troubling and disgusting to me.

Not a site I would have visited but count me in. Regardless of how well intentioned - Paterno should have blown the whistle as loud as possible. A shame it destroyed such a storied and stellar reputation.

It's a shame because there are good people over there. They are just honoring a person for his football related accomplishments, but the person(s) who decided this are "saying" they are able to just look at his football related stuff. I'm unable to do this, every time I see Joe's name I think of the stuff that was done. If I was in their shoes and there was one person who had a problem with it, I would rethink in honoring this guy. I'm not the only one on the site who feels that way. I even asked this question. If OJ Simspon died would you offer the same honorary game stock in his name for his football accomplishments? The answer was "Hell NO!" Can we say hypocrite. :) They are saying that they only look at what the person accomplished in his given sport, but with OJ that would not be the case. He explained that Since OJ committed a murder versus Joe "allegedly" not taking action, that there was a huge difference. Again, they told me that it had nothing to do with the non-football stuff.

I liked Joe Paterno up to this point, but it's painfully obvious to me that he knew too much and did way too little. The result of his inaction was many more kids being molested by Sandusky. Too make it worse, he woke up everyday and chose the same action of silence day after day. If someone came into his office and told Joe that his minor son or minor grandson was the victim of some sexual related act by his fellow coach or anyone for that matter, do you think Joe would have reacted the same way? Hell no.

update:

The owner reached out to me to try and resolve this issue. For now, the honorary IPO is still there, but it does not show up in any of the market listings. I will not see the name anywhere. He also said in the near future the IPO stock will be deactivated. I'm happy with the resolution, so the boycott ends. :)

So a reasonable end...........but,

Don't care who you are nor what your vocation or goal, when a child is being harmed, your focus MUST be to end it - NOW! Even at the risk of your own reputation.

JoePa didn't live up to that.

Roy -

I will give Joe one concession - I think he figured his "clout" was enough to speak to those responsible (Sandowski) to end it and he'd keep it quiet. But, he'd over-traded his position since he didn't understand the addiction/compulsion aspect. And it ended sadly!
