Tom Watson is showing the difference between the older players and the younger ones.
He is playing with patience and understanding.
The younger guys are trying to force the action and the course is beating them to death.
I sure hope that TW can bring this one home as maybe a final hurrah for those of us who grew up watching the "Duels in the Sun" and other classics.
If folks needed any closure beyond the Nicklaus win in 86 for the Nicklaus/Watson/Palmer/Player era this would be it.

Major kudos to Sergio for showing me something by giving TW the pep talk that got him back into the game Friday. I didn't think the kid had it in him to think of anyone but himself while on the course.

I'll be glued to the set and it's going to take something big to get me away from it. :-}

Later,

It would be something for sure,,,,, and IMO he has already shown us a lot already by just the 3 rounds he has played. As far as Sergio, I really think there is another side to this kid the media doesn't want us to see, I know at times he can piss us all off but he does seem to care about the other players. :D

I think 18 holes was all Tom Watson had in him! The last putt to win lacked real conviction........

Oh well, Congrats to Cink!

Definitely Congratulations to Stewart Cink "The Champion Golfer of the Year". Well played.

I'm sure the "Silver Salver" is little consolation to Tom Watson right now.
He had the "Claret Jug" in his grasp and then let it get away.
We can be disappointed in the outcome but in no way can we be disappointed in the way Watson played.
It was an exhibition of links golf the way it's supposed to be played. I'm sure glad I got to see it.

Hear! Hear!
He played with skill, patience and moxie gained only through years of experience. He's one of the best at playing the ball along the ground when it's required.
Most of all, he played - and lost - with dignity!
Just my 2c
Chuck

I liked the "C'mon This isn't a funeral" line to the press coming into the media center.

You have to wonder if Tiger or Phil would even be able to breath, let alone think, after suffering that kind of a devastating loss.
