On this date in 1899 George Grant was granted a US Patent (#638,920) for the wooden Golf Tee. He never intended to, nor ever made, a profit from his invention/patent.
When I run accross an event that I feel some, or most may find interesting, I will post it here. Feel free to add as you wish, because it is impossible for any one to know everything.

On this date in 1971 Bobby Jones passed away.
In 1948, Jones was diagnosed with syringomyelia, a fluid-filled cavity in his spinal cord which caused first pain, then paralysis. He was eventually restricted to a wheelchair. He died in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 69, on December 18, 1971, about a week after becoming a Catholic, and was buried in Atlanta's historic Oakland Cemetery.

Some of the info did come from those, but that did spur my interest in the history of the game a little, so I do have a little more on some issues than is on those little calendars. I usually ask for one as a stocking stuffer each year.
