Ah, took my 12 year old and her friend to one last night. I had to drive an hour each way to find the only one in the Chicago Metro. area that is still open. We were in West Chicago. Maybe DNRS knows if the one in McHenry is still open or not. :D

This theater has been kept up nice and is very clean. $7.00 for adults and $4.50 for kids. A little pricey for the drive in, but no choices. Food was reasonably priced and pretty tasty.
We could use the audio box (yes, they still work) for the sound or tune into a FM or AM station that they have designated.
The SUV owners suffer a bit, because they can't park in the first 12 rows which are reserved for cars only. This is a visibility issue, which I understand.
We watched Clone Wars and Mummy 3 and we got home at 1:00am LMAO They placed was jammed packed and everyone had a great time. I wish there could be a revival with Drive-ins.
Do you miss them? When is the last time you went?

Man,,,,, that sounds like a blast !!! They haven't had one in our area for at least the last 20 years or so. I for one miss them. They were always fun to go to and we all had a blast. I guess the good old days are gone around here for the drive in movies. The prices you mentioned don't seem high at all !!!!

Glad you had a great time, I would love to see the revival of the drive in !!!!!

And the food !!! Those "Burgers" were always great !!!!! LOL

I don't remember seeing one in McHenry the few times I've been over there so I can't help you out there.

I remember going for the Friday night double feature when I was in High School back in the early 70's. :-}

The last one iremember going to was in Decatur IL in the middle 80's but they tore that one down in the late 80's.

Later,

Drive-ins, boy that takes us all back, there were several in Richmond, VA where I grew up, went to the Patterson Drive in many times. Have not been to one since I was a teen, would love to do it again. The things we used to do at those movies...........would curl your hair in these days. :D :D :D

I don't remember when it was, but I remember the last movie I saw at a drive-in... Poltergeist!! My oldest daughter was 3 or 4, and the middle one was a baby. Couldn't afford a sitter, so we went to the drive-in. Kids were asleep no sooner than we had parked. LOL

In the little small farming community that I grew up in, we had two, count 'em TWO drive-in theaters, about a mile lnort of town, one on each side of the highway. I always thought that was strange. ONE of them closed when I was pretty young, and the other closed when I was about 14, just starting high school. We did have a walk-in, as well, but being in high school, it was more fun to drive the 20 or so miles to the BIG CITY, to go to the movies, walk-in or drive-in.

Until about 10 years ago, here in Albuquerque, we had a six-screen drive-in. Pretty cool!! It's now part of a strip center/office park complex. That's where we saw Poltergeist. didn't go much after that, to the drive-in, but I sure remember them well from "back in the day" and had a LOT (probably waaaay too much) fun going to them. ;) ;) ;)

The closest one I know that's still open is about 120 miles north of here, just outside of Las Vegas, NM. Each time I drive by it, it is showing current, first-run movies!!!

Do you remember the cool neon displays they had on the outside of the big screen? You could see them for a long way!! Lots of cool neon stuff!!!

Sneaking food and beverages in was better :lol: It was either ET or Star Wars that I saw last in one. Most around here are now swap meets during the day.
