The hitch in Charles Barkley's swing is so famously bad that Golf Channel got Barkley and noted instructor Hank Haney together for a reality TV show that garnered the network some added attention this spring. Haney maintained throughout the show's run that Barkley's swing defect was not a mental problem, even if Barkley considered it to have evolved from the anxiety he felt playing in front of crowds and TV cameras at celebrity tournaments. Haney was willing to backtrack and admit that Barkley's swing defect was at least partly a mental glitch. "Every mistake is physical and mental to a certain degree. You have to tell yourself what you're trying to do, you have to think about what you're doing," said Haney. Barkley, for his part, was steadfast in his admiration for the time Haney spent trying to help him. Sir Charles was also apologetic for the middling results. "I felt bad, to be honest with you, that I didn't improve more for him," said Barkley.
