I have been asking for one of those things for years , but my wife thinks i'm just kidding. :D

When you go to Bandon ; you need to file daily reports to the DB. It's one of the few places i would pay the "fee" to visit. Looks to be some really great golf and an excellent experience for a father and son.

Hips that"s great news to hear. im sure you will enjoy your Bandon Dunes trip immenensly. Any idea yet when you might go? I have played up there twice in June and once in May and the weather was great. I was told by the locals that September and especally October are 2 real good months also.
JJ you asked what there is to do for the Mrs. while your golfing and when i get some free time here i will give you a rundown on that. There are some things to see and do but the mrs and i really enjoy just the peace and quiet up there and enjoy the ocean. its so relaxing. it makes you forget about the hustle bustle of your daily lives. We love it up there.

Playing 2/7-8, and hoping for good weather. No Mrs. going so will be interested in other things. Son is working on his Masters through City U on line so he will be using some time to keep current there.

Well Hips glad you had fairly decent weather up there but how about a recap. Did you like the Bandon experience? Hate it?
and did you or your son get into one of the many pot bunkers up there that can kill a round? :D Inquirring minds want to know. :D :D

Hope to get some pictures up soon. The only rain was as we came out of the Pacific grill after an early lunch. Practice is first rate, two ranges, huge putting green, free par 3 course and Titleist practice balls included. there is a shuttle to take you everywhere on the grounds. We used it the first night and morning to get our bearings. Had quite a shock as we checked in at Pacific. MisT told us everything was paid for but they said that only the room was covered. Still working on this. But MisT has been known to screw up before...often. There are tees, ball markers, pin locators available at the start. Second set back, the new yardage pro didn't work, knew I should have tried it out on a course at home first. But the sprinkler heads are marked from 250 in. Lots of deer and possibly one bear inhabit the course.
Finally off to play, we were the last group off on Sunday. Had a nice drive to start out and drove it well each day. Son topped his first an 2nd shots and it was all down hill for him after that. We played from the green tees but that wasn't our problem. #4 is an interesting hole, all along the right side is this huge lateral water hazard and the fairway has a slight slope in that direction. We had decided that we would challenge all bunkers, otherwise we felt that we would have wimped out. I hit and it took 3 to get out of each of them. Hit the top edge within an inch or two every time. A normal lofted sand wedge is useless there.
We got so far behind, mostly looking for son's balls, that the marshall loaded me on his cart at 13 and droe us in. Son used my speed cart then. All the marshalls were very helpful, lots of places where you could get mixed up going from hole to hole. I was suprised at how far apart the holes were. Only lost one ball and parred 3 holes. Greens were very hard to read, the grass grew every which way. Son parred 18 so that lifted his spirits a bit.
Retired to the pub to watch half the 3rd and end of the game. Cobra will appreciate that they have a great cheeseburger for $9 and for the rest $5 NW beers. The rooms are nice, we were inan a-frame with 3 units in it. 2 king beds and lots of room and wi-fi. Very limited cable choices though. As sore as I got, sure glad we had a ground floor unit. It was so quiet at night it was odd for us city guys. 2nd day later 8-)

i warned you about those sand traps Hip. i had the same problem as i had a hell of time getting out of them. The sand is so fine in texture like nothing i have ever seen any where else. You really need a 60 degree wedge to get out . i didnt own one when i was up there before.
# 4 at pacific is the biggest lateral water hazzard i have ever seen.  That would be the pacific ocean for those who havent been there :D :D That hole just plays damn long to me. But that may because i didnt really play it that well at all. The practice facilities are second to none as you have said. As far as the greens go i did putt them pretty well. It might be diffrent this time of year up there though. sounds like you had fun though and thats the important thing to me. cant wait for the rest of the story.

Thanks very much for that first installment Hips. Looks like you guys had a great time.

Green grass in February ! I must be living in golf hell ! The grass on our fairways won't be that green until mid-April or later if we have a mean spring.

I checked out the prices on their website.......maybe i can sleep in a sand bunker or something ......or wash dishes for golf. Looks like a wonderful place though.
