The solid thud of persimmon has been replaced by the spang of titanium. The best 3 wood i ever had was a MacGregor persimmon . I finally used it up and have never found another i liked as much as that club. I had some Toney Penna woods that were very good as well. I have a beautiful Ben Hogan persimmon driver that adorns the fireplace in the family room.
I don't think "workmanship" is a consideration in the computer age. Clubs are fashioned by slave labor in China. Looking for "grain" in titanium is not a consideration when choosing a set of woods. Now....it's a paint job or how many moveable screws the thing might have , so we can fiddle with it when the swing goes awry. Irons still have that fine "tool" appeal , but i don't think we make them here in the States anymore. I could be wrong ........is ANY golf club made here now ???

Not golf related but same outdated business model applies. Went into Sears to buy their new auto-hammer, seems like a great idea for getting tight placed nailed. they were out. Sales guy didn't bother to check other stores or have a clue as to when they might get more in. They won't last long.
