I saw a bit one night in Hawaii, LT v Jerry Rice. All the regular sports programing is done there by 6pm so not much else on. Sure don't want to watch the next one that is on.

Not a Trump fan.....but it can't be any worse than the tripe they have been showing. Reality television is tacky. Trump should be perfect for this stuff. He reminds me of the owners of a honeymoon resort i worked for in highschool. Big fat tacky guys driving those big early seventies Lincoln Continentals and yelling at the help. I made a lot of money in tips though....except for the Canadians that came down. They never got the "tip memo" i guess. Worse tippers than Tiger Woods , but nice people at least. You couldn't say that about the New York City folks.......good tippers though ! The place covered , maybe, a hundred acres. You would carry several bags for fifty yards sometimes. I later graduated to waterski instructor ; which allowed for my frequent hangovers , but required enough sobriety to dock large boats and get people on their honeymoons ( some great looking women) , who could barely swim , up on waterskis. I sometimes had to jump in the water to comfort crying brides who were , quite naturally , freaked out about the whole waterski thing. It may have been the best job i ever had in my life ! Anyway.........what were we talking about ?

Sounds like a great summer job. My best might have been working in the bottling room of a winery Best ever job though was my scholarship job at Idaho where I had to deliver the washed swinsuits to the women's gym

My best summer job was working security at Alpine Valley outdoor music theatre in Wisconsin. My folks had a weekend cottage in Wisconsin, so I basically stayed the summers up there. One of my buds who lived up there got me the job. It was a great job, I met all the big rock groups, watched tons of concerts for free and the girls back then always liked a guy wearing a shirt that said "Security" in big letters.

Sounds like a wine....women ......and song.....summer job theme. Now for the WORST summer jobs. I worked as a "raker" on an asphalt crew in Montana . We were doing giant boat ramps up on Lake Kookanusa , near the Idaho border. The asphalt is scalding hot and you have to rake it into place and then get all the detritus off the top to satisfy the crew bosses....who were mostly morons. One big ugly guy was fond of telling Viet Nam stories about "ear necklaces" he liked to wear .."in the Nam." He was one of the worst human beings i have ever been around in my life. Nothing like working 10-12 hours a day in mid- summer on an asphalt crew you hate..... and then having to camp with them every night , without a shower or adequate food. I seriously contemplated beating the "Nam guy" to death with a shovel several times. I quit when we finished that job ....or was i fired??? I had a hard time holding a job in Montana.....i just wasn't redneck enough for those guys. I am a good redneck and they were BAD rednecks.....there is a difference. Geez...now i'm in a bad mood. Forget about the "worst summer job" thing.........NEVER MIND.

I was lucky enough to escape the draft . I didn't sign up until my principal marched me out of class and down the hall to the office to add my name to the draft rolls in my senior year. She was somewhat incredulous that i was not on the draft rolls , but i just professed ignorance and it was obvious she could understand THAT. It seems they were notified that i could be in violation of some federal law....i must have missed school that day. The principal was a really cool lady and we were friends. I split and stacked wood for she and her partner ( she was probably gay) ..... they were two excellent people and the best teachers in that school. I was just young enough to skip through near the end of that thing. I have read much about that war. The ear thing was told and retold in several different accounts from guys who saw combat. I assume some of it was bs , but it's not that hard to believe. This guy in Montana was a really disgusting pig of a man who is probably in jail now , or working for Barack Obama. I could say something trite like...think you for your service... but it seems an odd thing to say to a guy who served in Viet Nam in his youth. I remember that i didn't want to go to Viet Nam ...and i did not know a single person who DID want to go to Viet Nam. Different times.....i guess. jj

No, I didn't want to go either. But ending up in an air patrol squadron and staying in air-conditioned barracks while in country was much better than being on a river patrol boat or a carrier deck like most others that were called up at the same time.

I had a friend who was at Khe Sanh. He was a big ex- Marine and prone to beat the snot out of guys in bars. He was 7 or 8 years older ( at least) than me and got me into trouble more than once . He...6'4" and 240 lbs and..... I......6' AND 158 LBS with long hair (THEN)...in bars with angry guys drinking after work. The guy loved to fight and he was good at it........me...not so much......but i was good at grabbing the guy most likely to be really drunk and not as belligerent as his buddies ; then holding on long enough for my compadre to clean up his friends and scare my dance partner off. He was a sex addict , much like someone else we know , and he could be your best friend or your worst enemy. I haven't seen him for 37 years or so....i hope he calmed down and had a nice life. Next week....i am nailed to the hull !
