Wow, what an exciting 3 days of golf and I'm sure glad that I was so wrong on my predictions. Great job USA!!!!!!! I will write my final thoughts, since this may be the last time I'm posting in this folder.
EuropeFaldo - He sure took criticism for his captain's picks, but nothing more can really be said after the play of
Ian Poulter. (4-1-0) His play was outstanding and his energy was second to none on the Europe team. Monty who?
Paul Casey was (0-1-2) which was better the the Big 3 for Europe.
The Big 3 - Here is the what won it for us.
Garcia - (0-2-2)
Harrington (0-3-1)
Westwood (0-2-2).
NO wins from this group and 2 1/2 points total. Garcia not playing Saturday morning? This is the Ryder Cup!!!!!!! You find a way Sergio.
Karlsson and McDowell - clutch putting by these two in racking up 4.5 points between them
The big star besides Poulter has to be .........
Rose. (3-1-0) But we did not see too much of him during the coverage and not that much mentioned of him.
The rest of the team was a mixed bad who had their moments.
Hansen (0-2-1) He looked to be playing some good golf but could only manage a 1/2 point
Jimenez - (0-2-1) Not much good play out of the mechanic. I was very surprised that he only managed a 1/2 point.
Stenson and Wilson - A few good moment s here and there by both of them but they could manage 2 1/2 poi9nts between the two of them.
USAAzinger - He also took some criticsm for his captain's picks.
Mahan (2-0-3), he was rock solid and got points every time out for 3 1/2 total. I was against Mahan as a pick and I'm glad his was on this team in the end.
Holmes (2-0-1), he was rock solid even though NBC commentary made it sound like he was a off his game and a weak link for this team. 2 1/2 points was solid.
Campbell (2-1-0) We saw very little of Campbell all 3 days. It was not until he was part of the last 2 matches did we get to see Chad. 2 points and stellar play.
Stricker (0-2-1) He sort of played like he has been this year in tournament golf. One good day, one bad day. You never knew waht to expect and I'm surprised he could only muster up a 1/2 a point. Azinger knew what he was doing with his picks. Great job and see ya in 2010 when you are again coaching this team
Mickelson (1-2-2), HHHHMmmmm. Typical Phil in the Ryder Cup. Kim pulled him along on day 1 and he buried Kim on day 2 in the morning. He went though some good stretches of golf when playing with an energized partned, also played bad golf at times with the energized partner. Phil looked like he had no energy in his singles match and the final outcome reflected that.
Leonard - (2-1-1), For the most part he played real well and his putting was awesome except on Sunday when it completely dissapeared.
BBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOO- What can you say? The MVP for this Ryder Cup. (2-0-1) He was rock solid and provided the overall spark to this team and the entire gallery. I would have not sat him the one time Azinger did.
Perry - (2-1-1) He was solid and reveled in the moment in front of his home crown. I have been on Ken's case for skipping the majors, but I guess his main gola this year was to make the Ryder Cup in his home town and he figured that skipping the majors and getting high finishes in the "other" event on the week of majors was the best way to do it. He was playing a starring role in the Ryder Cup this year, I guess he knew what he was doing.
Kim - My very close 2nd place MVP. (2-1-1) He pulled Mickelson thru two of the 3 matches they were paired together, but Mickelson gave him no chance in the other match with his errant drives. Kim is the MVP of Sunday. He set the tone by going out first and giving Sergio and ass whooping.
Curtis and Furyk had did what they had to do when it was needed. Curtis did nothing in team, but was solid in singles. Same goes for Furyk.
Cink - look uninspired to me. His play reminded me of the 2002,04,and 2006 Ryder Cup.
Between this year and last year's President's cup team, it looks like we may have fixed the problem with these team events. Let's keep it going.
