One guy in CA continually bought houses and sold them to people he knew at around 50% more. Even though the CA market was tanking WAMU held the paper on both mortgages, even though he paid off the first one. Others would walk away from the house which was worth less than the original mortgage. The guy pocketed over $29M doing this.
