How bout those baton handoffs last night by the men's and women's U.S. teams ?
Women's beach volleyball was entertaining and we won gold.

Men's beach volleyball was also good ......although they should introduce the element of alcohol to the game. A player must consume at least four beers a set and if a team knocks a guys beer over ; it's a point to the offended team. Those rules are taken directly from Colorado Mountain Pasture volleyball ; which enjoyed a brief run as an ol limpic in the late seventies , in places like Leadville , Colorado. There were some other substances ingested , but we won't go into that at this time.

The diving was kind of boring. OF COURSE you don't make a splash when you are under 5 feet tall and weigh all of 72 pounds !!

BMX racing...........i liked the crashes and i always wanted one of those little bikes when i was 9 years old. Maybe The Golf Channnel could add this element to one of their "golf competition shows."

What more can you say about Michael Phelps ? He's a great champion , but he doesn't have the drawing power of The Great Michelle Wie.......so he will be quickly forgotten by a discerning American public.

There have been plenty of chances for my wife to cry along with some of the more emotional interviews. I had to call her downstairs last night so she could cry with that diver gal. I seem to take a perverse pleasure in watching her cry. I think i need therapy.

All in all , i have enjoyed the Olympics ; although , the older i get the more impossible gymnastics looks. The nuances of the scoring are still there. It's another sport where lillipution attributes seem to come in handy. Those Chinese gals make our 5'4" 104 ponders look like linebackers !

I won't be cheering our basketball team on. I can't stand Kobe . The Chinese seem to revere him , but i'll be hoping for an upset ....unless it's over already and i somehow missed it. You can never tell with NBC. They are kind of sneaky like that.

There was a time when i was a top-rated tavern shuffleboard player. We tried to get it accepted into the Olympics , but they thought it a bit unsavory. I think it would mesh perfectly with some of that beach volleyball crowd. Girls with tans , loud music , sunglasses (at night) , and lots of whining. (or was that...wining)

Anyway....that's my report from Beijing .......where the air is filled with the majesty of the Olympiad...............My eyes are burning with pride and my wife is starting to cry again , so i have to go.

JJ
PS....I would have fixed the spelling of lilliputian , but i'm too stupid to figure out this new fangled db we are stuck with. :o)

I used to get bleary-eyed and miss work watching the olympics. Since it became a pro sporting event, for the most part, I've lost almost all interest.

I watched Phelps' 7th race, but except for a few highlights, I've not watched any of it.

It looks like the men's BB team should be a lock for the gold, after beathing Argentina today. I expect Spain to be tougher than they were in the "practice" game, but I don't see them beating the U.S. team.

And I hope they don't let golf in. There's already way too many "sports" in the games. Plus, I can't see most of our top players doing it anyway (maybe Mickelson LOL) so who would make up our team?

See, I have no interest at all!! ;) ;)

I take it the Olympics were not a hot subject here. I still don't like this format for a DB. Slower than Ben Crane and i can't really see what's happening .

there is another olympic thread under television which has had quite a few posts.

Yes, there is a server problem and that is why the forum is slow. Should be fixed very soon

The forum format is way different then the old DB, but this format is used on over 95% of DB's. The advantages outweigh the disadvantages in a huge way. Take some time and get accustomed with the many options on how to view posts.
