Golf is about to get sexy. The huge prize money that will accompany the European Tour's new schedule is set to lure some of the world's spiciest golfers out of America. Top of that list is Camilo Villegas, the Colombian who has won the last two tournaments on the PGA Tour and has featured in People magazine's list of the hottest bachelors. George O'Grady, chief executive of the European Tour, told The Sunday Telegraph, that the Gulf States were about to flex their financial muscles in terms of pulling in the world's top golfers. The inconceivable prize money that such oil-rich countries can offer has started to arouse the interest of the glitterati of the American Tour.

As George O'Grady of the European Tour and David Spencer of Leisurecorp outlined their plans for the upcoming "Race to Dubai" that will climax with the multi-multi-million dollar "Dubai World Championship" next November, even the hard of hearing could discern the distant knocking of Tim Finchem's knees. The PGA Tour's biggest cheese has surely watched with growing trepidation at the plan devised by the European Tour and its Arab partners, one with the potential to do much long-term damage to his organization???s current pre-eminence. The interest in European Tour membership already expressed by the likes of Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott, Vijay Singh, Camilo Villegas, Robert Allenby and Geoff Ogilvy is likely to be only the trickle before the deluge, the beginning of a much larger exodus of players keen to escape the sameness and tedium of typical PGA Tour courses and take part in Leisurecorp's bid for global supremacy. When money talks -- or in this case shouts - professionals listen; even very rich professionals.

Interesting article.......one wonders how there won't be a "sameness" to courses built in the Middle Eastern desert. It will be interesting to watch how the sponsership dollars are cut in the States and where the Euro Tour will find the money to continue their quest for more top players. I would expect the Nationwide Tour will get hit first , but with the credit crunch hitting Europe , they might be playing the "European" Tour where they can find sponsers. We could be treated to more sweatsoaked Asian tournaments , or they could just build huge indoor courses in the Gulf states to keep out the sand storms and 120 degree heat. I wouldn't mind if they played more tournaments in Australia. Those course are more interesting than the "tedium" here , but it's way down there. The weather is so bad in the British Isles , that most guys aren't going to want to play in 40 degree weather with sideways rain all season. I'm betting on the PGA Tour .....but you never know....moneyyyy...it's a hit !

Well its looks like the migration has started to The European tour. Anthony Kim, the blonde bomber John Daly, Camilo Villegas have aleady paid there $3280.00 to get to the pot of gold in dubai. Phil Mickelson is seriously considering it. I read VJ is also.
Here's the deal a player has to play in 12 events. Six of those have to be the 3 majors in the USA and the 3 WGC tournaments. So that only leaves 6 that they have to play overseas. I think the players will be able to work the scedules very nicely for this pot of gold. There is gold in them thar sand dunes. :D :D :D

Again, Who said it's not about the money? :-}
Anthony Kim and Phil Mickleson. I wonder if Tiger would like an Order of Merit to go along with his POY and PGA Money List titles?
That's one thing that Jack never did that it seems Tiger could accomplish fairly easily.

I wonder if Comissioner Finchem has stock in Maalox? :-}

It is about the money, and the game. With the F*&%-Up Cup being done after the second event, how many, unless they really think they can win it, will clear their calendar for that?? Especially when there is a game with a large carrot in Dubai?????? The F*&%-Up Cup may end up like the World Golf event in Australia that year where not many bothered.!
