I have read the thread about annoying ads on the website. I have mentioned the option of a good ad blocker. This has worked great for me as I have not seen one ad on this site. The other option is donating to the community chest at the bottom of the main page. It cost $5 per month to remove the ads from our forum. We can all chip in a few bucks here and there to remove the ads. The default amount in the community is $15.00, but you can change that amount to any amount desired. Any money collected in the communtiy chest would be used for the removal of ads. I can not transfer the money to myself even If I wanted to. Remember, thi8s is only another to remove the ads. It is all up to users of this site on what direction we want to take in regards to ads.
Roy

Ok, thanks for that information. I will do some research on if that can be changed. I don't know why there would be a minimum. I will get back to you on this.

$5.00 gets rid of them for a month, but $10.00 is the minumum that can be put into the community chest. freeforums.org picked that amount as the minimum because when you factor in paypal charges it make it much less worthwhile when donating less then $10.00. I would say put into $10.00 and maybe some others can also donate and then that would take care of us for quite some time. See, when you donate through the community chest, it only gives me points to use for the forum (remove ads, 2nd level domain etc....)
The only other option other freeforum owners are using to allow any amount of donation would be for me to create a link on here that donate's directly to my own paypal account, then I would in turn donate to the forum through the ccommunity chest. Whichever we choose would be fine.

Here is a breakdown. It costs $105.50 a year for the forum the way it is now. 1) 1 year of ad removal - $54.40 2) 1 year of the 2nd level domain name ( www.mcdivots.org) - $15.00 3) 1 year of copyright removal $15.00 4) 20% fee ($21.10 fee if we received $105.50 in donations) that freeforums.org gets on all donations made (so much for free forums. LOL) $75.00 has been donated to the forums as of today. *** The minimum donation that can be made is $10.00

Why pay anything? Use FF as a browser along with an extension called Adblock Plus and you can block any ad. I've been using it for years on many boards. Anyway, Firefox is a better browser than IE, IMHO.
