Indeed he did! My 1st recollection of him was as the wise-cracking next door neighbour on December Bride when I was in my early teens. It was a morning sitcom with Spring Byington and a couple other former stage stars. Really funny - and spun off into a failed sitcom called Pete & Gladys.
JMHO but, I think Colonel Potter was his best role. Not just the popularity of MASH but because he portrayed the boss we all want (and I have now) tough when needed but, when the chips are down, values "human capital" above all else.

Harry Morgan...THAT'S IT ! Could not remember the name ...and did not want to use google. I liked Harry very much. Col. Potter was a great character ! MASH got way too preachified in the later years though. That Mike Farrell guy was the guy that started it towards the preachify end. Giant asshole. R.I.P. Harry Morgan.........didn't he have some trouble with his wife a few years ago ? Maybe screaming at people from limos ? Wish i had a limo to scream at people from.

He was great in that role. remember him doing lots of other shows I can't recall and only remember the name, December Bride. That was a great cast overall. He wasn't the original colnol on the series if I remember right.

You're right. He wasn't. McLean Stevenson played the original Col. Henry Blake. The character was carried over from the original movie. He left the series after about 3 seasons to do his own sitcom. Stevenson died about 3 years after that. In the series, his character was killed off by having his plane shot down over the Sea Of Japan on his way home after having served his time and discharged. One of the greatest MASH scenes ever. Radar walked into the O/R and read the telegram to the rest of the staff. The directors hadn't given Gary Burghoff the script ahead because they wanted his true reaction. He read it dead cold and it was stunning. Tele

That WAS a great scene . McLean Stevenson was great as Henry Blake. The fishing hat with all the flys stuck on it was a perfect touch. Really good show for a very long time.
I was young and on the road without a television for most of that time period. Saw most of it in reruns.
