Les Paul was one of the first pioneers of technology in the music industry...without him,we wouldn't have multiple tracks to record our music on,or the great guitars that many have relied on over their careers. He was ahead of his time, and not only had a brilliant technical mind,he had a great sense of humor about other guitar players which is often overlooked. One classic example is when Jimmy Buffett showed up at one of his New York performances that he held every Monday night at a small club and invited other musicians up to jam with him. When Jimmy volunteered to jam with him,he was introduced as "This guy Jimmy from Florida"...After they played "Margaritaville",Jimmy's best known song,Les turned to him and said something like "You might just make it someday...Your tunes are pretty good". R.I.P Les Paul, and thank you for all the great things that you opened our eyes to.

A side bar - Sometimes I have to wonder about people who pick materiel for news clips. I was watching one on the news the night Les died. They were going on about notable rock players who relied on the Gibson Les Paul guitar. In sequence, the pictures were: Paul McCarney playing a Les Paul - plays guitar once in a while and, yes, it is a Les Paul but, HE'S A BASS PLAYER PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keith Richards - playing a Gibson 335! Totally different guitar. Used a Les Paul in the early Stones years but, has played Fender Telecasters almost exclusively since the 70s. Pete Townshend (Who) - playing a Fender Stratocaster .............. and to my knowledge has never used a Les Paul on stage. Steve Miller - playing a Fender Stratocaster - the only guitar I've ever seen him play. Joe Walsh (Eagles) - playing a Les Paul - OK - but an early picture from The James Gang. Walsh has primarily played Strats and Rickenbackers, for slide work, for over20 years. What are these news producers thinking????????? Why not use pics of guys who never used anything but Les Pauls like Peter Frampton, Slash, Tom Sholtz (Boston), Terry Kath (Chicago), Gary Moore (great Scottish blues player)? Sorry! Just thought is was poorly thought out. End Rant!! Tele
