I'm checking in early, but it's not a BAD thing! It's more a STRANGE thing! ;)

The weather was pretty bad today, right from the start. By the time warmup was done, and my 8:30 tee time arrived, the wind was blowing steady about 25 mph. #1 is a 420 par 4, slight dogleg left, and this morning playing a LOT longer, right into the teeth of the wind. We both got off to a shaky start, and halved the hole with bogeys. I won #2 with a good par save, and on #3, a short par 3, my opponent hit his tee shot OB (actually he hit it high and the wind just took it OB). I was in a greenside bunker, but he didn't re-tee, just conceded the hole!!! Now I'm 2 Up through 3. :D :?:

The round rocked along, and the wind got worse and worse, bordering on unplayable, but on #9 I went 3 Up, halved #10, won # 11, and then the STRANGE part kicked in. I arrived on #12 tee, 4 Up, 7 to play, and the group in front was just getting to their tee shots in the fairway. I walked up on the tee box, and tee'd my ball up. My opponent walked up, no club in hand, stuck his hand out, said "good match" and turned around and began walking away. :o

I had not seen anything happen to him injury-wise, but was concerned, so I followed him and asked if he was okay, was he hurt or sick, and he just said "no" and drove off!!! I have never seen anything like it before. I packed all my stuff up, and headed to the clubhouse. When I arrived, I didn't see him anywhere. I went to the head of the committee, and told him what had happened, and asked about my opponent. No one had a clue!!!!! A W is a W, but that was just strange.

The wind kept worsening, and they were talking about the afternoon matches being delayed and maybe cancelled, and trying to decide how to handle the completion of the tourney, as there is no way to get three matches in on Sunday. The weather service took care of that by issuing a thunderstorm warning with hail, and winds gusting to 70 mph and possible tornadoes about 1:00 p.m., so play was cancelled. We will "try" to complete rounds of play tomorrow, then the final 4 will play the following Sunday!!

So, I have a match in the morning, weather permitting (this is supposed to blow through tonight) and then "hopefully" another tomorrow afternoon. I'll keep you posted. :?:

The weather was pretty rotten, so I advised the kids not to come...right decision. It would have been miserable for them. They won't be able to make it tomorrow, all involved in LOTS of church activities on Sundays.

And you're right...very strange.

There will be other times. Have always wished that my kids would have got to see me play fastpitch or soccer but the hips went about the time they were born.

That's too bad. I bet they would have loved seeing it.

Mine were looking forward to it, and so was I, but the weather just did not cooperate. We were playing about 35 mi. south of town, and the storm hit there shortly after we left, and it is here now, and it is NASTY outside. :(

Looks like it is the front edge of hurricane Norbert that got you. I've been worried about that and Odile following it with our trip this week. The center of the storm is still over Baja.

Man, that is a weird way to win. But like you said a W is a W, so Congrtulations.

Damn, 35 mph winds and tornado warnings, that really, pardon the pun, BLOWS.
Good luck in the morning. Bring it home.

Later,

Almost 9:00 p.m., and the winds are down to probably 10-20. Hopefully blowing through and tomorrow will be a decent day. Gonna be pretty wet down there. They got quite a bit of rain and hail after we left.

It's also going to blow that, no matter what happens tomorrow, the tourney won't be over for another week!!!
