Greg Norman says in these economic time golfers should take a pay cut. Isn't that up to the sponsors and whether they want to spend the money or not? What I also don't see in the article is anything Norman is doing to "cut back" on his income. The market will self-correct due to where sponsors determine to best spend their advertising dollars, Greg. You're an astute businessman, supposedly, you should know that. What a bunch of BS.

I agree on the part that the market will correct. I see the coming year to be a tough one for Golf at all levels. In tight times people will look for enjoyment in places the whole family can participate in, so that could mean a reduction of rounds. I have not noticed greens fees dropping, so the staff wages are not going down, which could spell doom for some courses and course conditions. I would expect to see some closings of some courses that are dancing on the line.

On the pro level, a tournament has always been pretty cheap to attend for a sporting event, but concession sales and merchandise sales will be softer I bet. I think the pros are looking at a cut, either in pay, or in the number of events, which is where the market will correct with lack of sponsors, or lack of willingness to put up the pile of cash needed to be a title Spenser.

Agree the market will correct. It would be nice to see the sponsors "And" players get together and make sure the fans can still get into the tourneys and keep them going !!!

What surprises me is as FG stated, I haven't seen any courses in the area make any cuts on the rates at all. Not sure some will get through the season !!!!

I've not only not seen any rate cuts, on many of the course we play they are making significant improvements to the course and related buildings. They are, however, just as busy as normal, and it's just now beginning to warm up enough that the golfers who don't play during the winter are just beginning to get out, so it looks like business as usual.

My golf shop also seems to be doing quite well.

That is great for your area........but isn't this your season so to speak? I know here on the east coast, they appear to be struggling a bit, but the weather has played a big part in that. Normally we have some days in December January and February that you can get out. Not true this year, the only time I have played was when I was in Carolina.

Could be the East Coast, the last time I was in the local golf store they stated that business had really dropped. The weather this year has kept people from playing so far in our area but it still seems slow as some will play in this weather.

Guess we will see when the temps rise,,,,,,,,, :?:

Well, today, I am headed out to boost the Golf industry and to try and knock a little rust off! Got an e-mail special for a great course where 4 play for the price of three! :D :D :D

The Shark should consult with The Obama . He who knows all will tell us what should be done.

All sponsor companies that take money from the great Obama must cease their sponsorships at once ! Golf tournaments are not a good use of the peoples resources. Golf courses in arrid and semi-arrid places (Like New Mexico) will be turned into government windfarms. Those places that have adequate rainfall will be allowed to continue operations under the watchfull eye of our great Master. All cash prizes will remain the same , but be taxed at 75% ; with the proceeds going directly to Al Sharpton. All tournaments without Tiger Woods in the field will be cancelled. Charles Barkley will replace Tim Finchem as Tour Commissioner. We need a calm , but firm hand on the reins in these times of CRISIS !

THE OBAMA HAS SPOKEN........ALL PRAISE THE OBAMA !!
