Hi folks -

By that I mean...................
Needed new glasses about a month ago and went for the customary eye test. As usual, the optometrist did the pressure test to detect Glaucoma and my eye pressures were "normal". Then I mentioned that my Dad had had Glaucoma and had suffered a major event because of it. Optometrist immediately said, "OK! It's hereditary so I'm going to do another test." Pressure went through the roof. Referred me to a specialist. Sure enough - I have Closed Angles Glaucoma. It's severe, comes on without warning and can cost your sight. Just haven't had an incident.

So, here's where the technology comes in. They took a LASER and punched a hole through the iris above the pupil. It's painless and you never know it has been done. The LASER cauterizes the hole so it's permanent and, when the fluid pressure in my eye gets too high, some fluid bleeds off through the hole and I never know the difference. Well, I do in a minor way - I get a temporary blurry spot like my glasses are finger-printed - but it goes away in a few minutes.

That was my right eye - last week. They're going to do the other eye next week and I won't have to worry about it anymore. Technology is WONDERFUL! Other than about 30 seconds of stinging from the anesthetic drops they put in my eye, it's totally painless. Next morning I'd never have known it was done.

Get checked guys. Closed Angle Glaucoma is nasty - I never knew just how nasty.

Cheers
Tele

Thanks for the post. I'm glad you spoke up and the other test was done. They did the procedure and everything seems real good. Many people never speak up (myself included).

The 2nd eye has now been done and just as easy as the 1st one was. Next morning, would never have known it had been done....................

I no longer have to worry about my eye pressure getting too high.

Now - my golf game is in the temporary toilet. Driving it great - just can't stop myself "flashing" my irons - w-a-y quick from the top - starting down before everything is settled at the top - like I'm afraid the ball is going to suddenly move out of the way. So, if I could just figure out a way to blame my golf scores on the eye operations....................... Hhmm? Suggestions welcome! ;-)
