Thought I would start a thread on this years Masters tournament seeing that it starts in a couple of days. Is this the year the young guns come to the forfront or will it be the wily old veterans who will win this thing like they usually do? Phil Michelson came on like gangbusters this last week needless to say. A person has got to like his chances they way he is playing. Tiger i just dont see him winning. Maybe a top 15 at the most. But sure as i say that watch him turn his game around and win the damn thing. Stricker Harrington, Furyk, Kaymer and some of the other European players could get it done. As for the yonger guys Dustin Johnson, our local guy Nick Watney they are both playing good and knockin on the door. Fowler i just dont think his game is there yet but like they say win the first and the rest are suppose to come easier. Dont know if Bubba Watson's game fits that course as he like to turn it loose. and with that course you have got to think your way around it. It ought to be an interesting week to say the least.i cant wait for it to start. What does everyone think about this years tournament?

What tournament is on this week ??? Oh yeah........it's Masters week. It's not the B.C. Open , but it will have to do .
I got one name for you......Mr. Eldrick Tiger Woods. He'll be back and playing great at The Masters. Phil will play good too............and we will see some of the young guys on the leaderboard , including Nick Watney , Bubba Watson , Rory McIlroy , and , maybe , that Gary Woodland guy. Thirty Somethings would have to include Luke Donald ( may not be long enough ) , Matt Kucher , Hunter Mahan , Paul Casey , Justin Rose , and Ian Poulter. Are those last two guys thirty something already ??? OLD GUYS would have to include Steve Stricker , Vijay Singh , Fred Couples ( bad back and all) and the venerable Tom Watson........THAT would be a kick if he was anywhere near the top of the leaderboard. REAL THREATS .... Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell...two big tournament players , and You would have to put Dustin Johnson and Padraig on that list. Darkhorses....would you think Ernie Els might find his putter ? How bout Martin Laird ?!? I like Bill Hass as a guy who could play well. Rickie Fowler could get hot , as could a number of other guys ...Kaymer ?...... SUPER Darkhorse....Miguel Angel Jimenez. Probably missed the guy that will break through. Should be excellent viewing , although they never show enough of this one. That's irritating......c'mon green jacket guys...pull thee collective head out of thee collective arse and give us more tv !!!

You would think it's the year of the young guns, but winning at Augusta usually means experience. (see Nick Whatney 2010) Phil puts his game together the week before the Masters, so he would be the favorite in my book. Tiger will put it all together very soon, will it be this week? Ian Poulter does not think so. Tiger has been practicing at Augusta, so I'm confidant that he will be putting above average all week, that makes him a Top 5 contender this week. If his ball striking is on, he will win. Lee Westwood has the experience and the game right now, so he will be there contending on Sunday. There will be a few young guns leading this thing after round 1, round 2 and maybe even round 3, but they will falter come Sunday.

Phil winning on a course that doesn't set up well for him says a lot about his current game, I think. From the NW, Freddie always plays well there and Ryan Moore hasn't done bad, expecially his amatuer year there. Then there is the weather, supposed to be good so fast greens and they better watch out for more falling pine trees. That had to scary. Place is supposed to be so proper and the little of the par 3 I watched had a bunch of rug rats running and falling all over the greens. Hope they didn't do any damage.

So much for any of our guesses, not even close. Par is sure taking a beating too. Be interesting to see if those on top can hold on tomorrow and on. Interesting that Butch Harmon came out saying McIlroy had no change.

Too early to say that our guesses were right or wrong. Rory Mc. will falter by Sunday because of his youth and inexperience on this course. Phil and TIger will rise to the top by Sunday. Y.E. Yang can hang on there and be a serious contender. THe Spaniard (Quiznos or whatever his name is) will falter. You don't go three previous Master's appearances without breaking 75, then have one exceptional round yesterday and all of sudden you have figurered out Augusta and will contend, just not happening.
Casey Woods Westwood Mickelson Donald cabrera
These are the people who will be there on Sunday

Well................lots of woulda coulda shouldas.......and a guy that i , almost , picked for fantasy wins the green jacket. Tiger not so deadly on the greens ....and around the greens too. Good performance ; but he can't help being kind of a shit in the post round interview. Granted ; the questions are , predictably , stupid and irritating , but why does he have to be such a wet blanket ? He comes off like it's the g'dam NBA or something......he's hard to like. Sad for Rory........you have to feel for a guy when that kind of thing happens. All golfers have gone through that kind of finish if you have played any golf at all. Adam Scott can , finally , putt with that long contraption. ( cheater) Jason Day played great .....a bit high strung though. I thought Cabrera had the perfect setup to win his second jacket , but those greens are ugly hard. Lots of guys in the mix all day . Congrats to Charl Schwartzel for his first Major win. He can now "hang" at the Masters until he croaks .

Oh yeah.....Phil didn't have it , but made a decent effort at least. A lot of other guys didn't even make the cut.
Ian Poulter.....who needs to stfu until he does something more in the game ( much more) ...finished fairly well back. Takes more than gay clothes and a big mouth to win major tournaments Poulty. Worlds Number One ....C'MON.....Kaymer played awful. You have to make the cut fer cryin out loud ! A large group of very good players in today's game , but too much parity is kind of boring. Guys that hit it 350 ...but nobody with any kind of resume. I was hoping for Mickelson to be on the first page. Many of these guys are VERY young and very talented , so we will wait for it to unfold for the next decade. A very good Masters though.......i would kill for those kind of course conditions. Hard to imagine playing a course of that quality........put me up at 6600 yards or so though. Par fours !!!! 505 yds.....495 yds.....and creeks and ponds in front of the greens.......UGLY !

Another Rory meltdown. any major that he contended in he has some big number in the 3 or 4th round, I think this is the third time it has happened. He needs to get over this hump (does not have to win) and not have the blow up round.
Tiger has he same usual tourney with the one bad round that keeps him from winning. It put on a nice show yesterday, but the bogie on 12 and the missed eagle putt on 15 did him in. If he makes though two putts, I don't think Charl birdies the last 4 holes. IMO
What a first of firsts. Charl birdies the last 4 holes to win. All previous winner's of the Master's had at least 2 pars during the final two holes. Awesome job.
Day held it together and had a nice second place.
Adam Scott showed me something in a major for the first time, maybe it's his time to step it up.
Where did Phil go this week? I was waiting for a charge all weekend.
