If a Mt. Rushmore of golf were created, which four golfers would go on it?

Wow,,,, pretty hard question there !!!! Will have to give it some thought, but IMO Arnie would have to be one of them.

Bob Jones, Old Tom Morris, Francis Quimet, and Jack Nicklaus, if it were built today

I like this discussion already.

I think Arnie and Jack must be on there. maybe Tiger since I don't think it's too early in his career. The 4th person and possible the 3rd (if not Tiger) would be very tough for me to answer. I must go back and put more thought into this. :D :D :D

You couldn't build a Mt. Rushmore today.
Between lack of funding and tree hugger protests it would never get off the ground.
But, if you could get funding and permits:
Bobby Jones - The only winner of the "True" Grand Slam
Ben Hogan - The epitomy of work ethic
Arnold Palmer - Brought the game to the masses
Jack Nicklaus - The "Greatest" golfer, ever!!!
You'd have to keep a slab ready for the addition of the "heir apparent" :-}

Later,

How could you or anyone NOT inclue Tom Morris? He is the father of the game and the keeper of the greens of the Home of Golf, Saint Andrews!!!!!! He has to be there!

I thought long and hard about Hogan, Nelson, Snead, and Arnie, but each missed the cut while in their own right, each was great. I picked Francis because he is the one that lit the match to get Golf going in the USA.

This is Mount Golf-more after all, and I really did not look at Tiger, because, that story is far from over and it would be premature to include him right now. I say to hell with the Tree-huggers, let me fire up the bulldozer!

This is tough. I cannot leave off the greatest golfer ever, in Tiger. Even if he never plays another round of golf, he is the greatest. :D

Jack - The second greatest ever
Arnie - For what he has done for the sport he must be on there
Tiger - The greatest ever and is on his way to matching Arnie for what he has done for the sport.
Tom Morris - I'm going with the father of golf.
