Anybody else tried 'em? I bought a sleeve on a whim and I really like them. Been a Pro V1x guy for a long time but I found I get considerably more off the tee with the Penta than I do with the 1x. Works well off the irons and around the green. Anyway, Golf Town (I guess our version of Golf Galaxy) was pushing them for Fathers' Day at $65 for 2 doz so I bit. Guy that served me is one of their teaching pros and made an interesting comment. Said, "most better amateurs play Pro V1s based on ego but no way they can hit it hard enough to get what it's designed to deliver. But this is a Tour ball that a decent amateur can play and actually get a little more from it than a mid-priced ball. You'll enjoy it." So far he's been right! IF I had any misgivings at all it would be that the 1x is former and I like that little shock in my hands off irons and the putter - better feedback as to how square I've hit it............. Cheers from Nashville, Chuck

Haven't tried them either. Will take quite awhile to get through my current stock.

Well - I've played the season, so far, with mostly the Penta but going back to the ProV1x once in a while for comparison. The Penta wins - for me.
Some key observations - for my game.................
The Penta is seriously longer off my driver than the 1x
The 1x is almost a club longer off my irons - but no biggie given the length advantage from the driver
Penta goes further on slight miss-hits - like, a toe hit still gets there
Neither one is any good if hit thin
Titleist wins the spin game. Stops better on a 7-i approach and a 40-yd pitch. The Penta likes to run out more,
End of the day - our pro tells me I shouldn't be playing either of these. I should be playing a Bridgestone B330-RX. Nice ball - played 'em before and they go an amazing distance off both driver and irons. But - IT DON'T STOP!!!! Approaches from 50 yds run out the back door like catchin' the 18-year old guy next door with your 14-year old daughter!
FWIW - which is not much - that's what I found................... Tele

Varely intelesting........i have played the Penta ball. Good distance...decent spin.....feels a bit hollow off the putter. Taylormade balls have a hollow feel when i putt them . Interferes with my feel on putts. I haven't found a ball that spins around the greens like the ProV1's .....both ProV's stop on the greens and take spin off chipped balls really well . However....unless you are hitting downbreeze .....they are not as long as some of the other new balls....unless you have a ton of clubhead speed. My favorite PREMIUM BALL is the Callaway Tour Iz . The thing goes really long for me....cover is very soft and solid for chipping and putting.....feels very solid off the irons......does not quite spin off the irons like a ProV.........BUT not bad spin into the greens , and the distance off the driver trumps everything for me. In fact.....i have never played a longer ball than this guy. You can work them a bit too....compared to a ball like a NXT Tour or something in that category. Perfect for the distance challenged ...but can still break 80 half the time...kind of guy.

<<.unless you are hitting downbreeze .....they are not as long as some of the other new balls....>> That was our pro's point to me. Even a good amateur doesn't have the club head speed to take advantage of what a Pro V1 can deliver. Said, and I quote - "Unless your driver speed is 120+, you don't hit it hard enough to get it out as far as a NXT Tour or a comparable ball. You (me) should try playing a Bridgestone 330 RX. It's designed for guys in the 90-95 range." Heck - let's face it folks, we all want to play the same ball the tour guys play but, in reality, if you're not a scratch cap or better, so long as it's round and white and, flies when you hit it - it's good enough! Case in point - I play 3 days a week with a super-senior who brags that he hasn't bought a ball in 20 years. He plays what he finds. Guess what!? I'm a 9 cap and he's a very good 75-year old with bad knees. HE KEEPS UP WITH ME! I buy, on average, 3 boxes of balls a year at, what? - $50 CDN/box. Jack spends nothing and scores within about 3-5 strokes of me - every day! As Dr. Phil would say, "And how's that workin' for ya?"

Golf balls are SO good these days compared with twenty years ago ! There are some garbage balls out there , but many to choose from that will play just fine for the vast majority of players. I think some of it is the "mentality" that a ball gives you when you take your stance . Does that ball give you the confidence you're looking for on the tee and over a pitch shot ? When you clean it and wipe it off......do you have that feeling of invincibility as you take the club back ? Seriously....a ball that does not "look" right or "feel" right must be cast aside to dwell with the other outcasts at the bottom of my Golf Magazine shoe bag in the car. Sometimes one or two of these balls might be "brought up" to my golf bag to serve as last minute replacements on a dogleg with water on the inside corner. The slightly scuffed NXT Tour goes in for the Tour i to fly with that perfect touch of draw over the cattails , and land with a satisfied smirk in the middle of the fairway. YESSS....now maybe he'll leave me in for a few holes so i can prove myself. The call -up might last for only one hole , or for the rest of the round , but that NXT is back in the show ! Okay then........my favorite balls are... Callaway Tour i .....Bridgestone 330 RX...( You are correct sir...these are very good balls for most of us.)... Bridgestone E6.....Titleist NXT Tour and ProV1X.....TopFlite Gamer ...a 3 piece ball that does everything pretty well ( a Bridgestone for less) ...and Wilson Fifty elites are fantastic balls for 12.86 a box....seriously. Epilogue : The NXT saga is a true story. He lasted for two more holes before being pulled and sent back down to the shoe bag , where he fell in with some hardened Precepts and was later sent to the drywall bucket in the garage , never to be heard from again .

When I play what I think is a more important round, I use "better" balls. Always start and end the season with the used ones...if I haven't lost them all. This spring I was looking for some beaters in my trunk and all I could find were ProV's, all from the players. But not a thing this year.

Cheap bastards ! They are too busy "growing the game" to give you a sleeve of free balls. I was playing a Callaway HX Tour ball last night. Same cover material as their newer ball...that nice gummy feeling stuff. Found it in my backup ball bag. Played exactly like their newer ball. If anything , was longer than the Tour i .........shot a plus three 75 with three birds. ( I am so good...and i'm growing the game. ) I am hitting my new irons really well ! Funny thing was...i was 3 over after four holes and thinking i was headed for one of "those" rounds. Ya just never know.
Saw Golfer A1 is 62 on the birthday blurb.......now there was a guy that played golf. Wonder what happened to him. 68 MEMBERS in here , but you can't get a rise out of any of them. Just dead as a doornail most of the time. Still have that ball.......it's in the starting line-up now.
