I thought it might be interesting to get an idea of they type of golf our members play most often, so I thought I'd start by asking a few questions about our golfing habits.

If you want to offer more info on your golfing habits, great. I just threw these questions together on the fly.

I'll start by answering for me and my group.

1. Yes, I play once a week with a regular group that has been essentially the same members for about 10 years.

2. On average, I play about 8 rounds per month, half with my regular group, a round or two with "some" member(s) of my regular group, and then go out as a single once or twice a month.

3. My regular group rotates weekly among 12 courses (and occasionally plays another one or two in the area). The farthest we travel for a regular group round is about 75 miles.

4. We play a regular game with a few bucks on the line. The most an individual can lose is $16. One can win $40-60 on any given week (not counting and individual side bets that may be going on.

5. Our regular group rounds are stroke play. Our year-end championship group tourney is, however, match-play.

6. Everyone in our regular group plays tournament golf, such as club and city championships and tourneys (rarely scrambles) at our home courses.

7. Every round we play as a group is played by the Rules of Golf.

8. As a group we play public courses, most of which are of the "upscale" daily-fee type. It is difficult to get multiple, back-to-back tee times on our munis, so it is extremely rare we play them as a group.

9. As a group, we take at least one golf trip per year, but remain in our home state to do so. We can travel, stay and play relatively inexpensively, but there is about $1500 on the line during this trip. Pretty serious golf for a bunch of regular guys! We do still have a great time together, however.

10. Weekend golf with cart in the area averages around $50-55. Many of the courses are daily-fee, however, so if anyone wants, after our regular round, they can go back out and play all they want for that price, and on occasion many do.

Normally playwith one other guy, Rick, and we have two or three others that sometimes play. The wife plays when we are on vacation.

Normally get in 6 to 8 rounds a month. 4 or 5 with Rick and others as a single.

Rarely play the same course twice in one year. May play the local favs 3 or 4 times. We do go to favorites each year.

4. Do you play for grins and giggles or for a few bucks on the line?

Usually for G&G might wager a beverage every once in a while.

Stoke play almost exclusively.

My last (LOL) wife and I played quite a bit together. We always took the clubs on any trips we took. She also played in two leagues.

Okay, gotta ask...what is your version of the "modified stableford system"?

I can't remember the exact scoring off hand, but it based on bogey golf instead of par.

Yes, play with a fairly regular group of guys.

Being retired, we TRY to play twice a week, but at times it just doesn't work out.

3. Do you play one course almost exclusively or do you play many different ones in your area?
We do bounce around, we play out of The Lung Book, which is a discount book offered by the American Lung Association, so we "try" to hit their courses.

4. Do you play for grins and giggles or for a few bucks on the line?
Mostly for Grins and Giggles, except when we head to Myrtle Beach, then it's everything counts!

Stroke Play

Nope, not me, maybe only one guy in our group could do that, but even he's not that consistent.

Yes, for the most part, a couple like to play Winter rules all year long.

We play munis, semi private mostly.

One big one every year to Myrtle Beach, 7 days of Golf. Several short ones, a day or two here and there.

Here in Northern Virginia, without any discount cards/programs you are looking at $50-$75 for a decent course. A very good to better course will go for $100-$125. There is always a deal somewhere......

I'm somewhat surprised there's not a few bucks on the line during regular play.

Also find it interesting that for good courses the prices don't seem to vary that much.
