Three hundred pound NFL offencive tackle has his career ended by a goof in a golf cart. Wow!

Some how I have a feeling the roll over wasn't caused just by having 300 pounds on one side of the cart :?

Matt went to highschool about twenty miles from here and played college ball at CU . I think he was in the same graduating class with my daughter. This is really too bad. I'm not that surprised though....guys that age seem more interested in flying around like idiots in those stupid carts , than playing the game of golf. I hate golf carts. They are an invitation to drink too much , gain more weight , and act like a stupid ass for these young guys. I see this kind of obnoxious stuff every year and it's getting more prevalent all the time. Idiots driving on the green ....flying through the practice areas and parking lots ......coming to squealing stops with the associated stupid cackling .........buying beer all day and getting drunk and nasty to other players.

I don't have a problem with folks having some fun on the course , but golf carts in the hands of twenty somethings , who are usually drinking , are more than an irritation out there. How in hell do you hit a guy stepping out of the cart in front of you ? ( Hard enough to end his pro football career.) They had to be fooling around with the carts and doing stupid stuff. Can you imagine being the ranger and having to deal with 300 pound tackles with 6 or 7 beers in them driving golf carts like fools ? I saw some guys , just last season , who would fit this description . They were driving up on the grass swales around the green and almost tipping the carts over. They could be heard for 300 yards around shouting and grunting like hogs when someone made a putt or hit another shot out of bounds.

Anyway......i hate golf carts. Sorry about the rant.

I agree :!: :!: But read something not long ago that said you only walk 20% less with a cart.

A first hole is 400 yards long. It's 34 yards to the tee box. I walk , you ride. We walk onto the tee...8 yards. We hit and walk off the tee..8 yards again. I walk 242 yards to my ball.....you drive 242 yards to yours. You walk 3 yards to your ball from the cart. We hit. I walk 150 yards to my ball on the front fringe......you walk 3 yards back to the cart and drive behind the green , then walk 14 yards to your ball on the right fringe. We both hit approach putts after walking around the green to get our lines down ...we will say 14 yards each. We putt out ...add 12 yards each . Pick up and walk off green 12 yards each. You drive to next tee , i walk 20 yards .

That would be .....ME walking approx. 500 yards total and you walking some 74 yards total . Even if you were playing cartpath only , or walking back to your cart to drink from your Budlight ( ewwww) every 30 seconds ...we get nowhere near that 20 % thing. Double your yardage ! Triple it ! Where would all this walking come into play ? Even if the course were some kind of really strange design , i could not conceive of any circumstance that would require a cart rider to walk 80 percent of the distance a walker had to cover.

I play mountain courses that are up and down and have modern designs that require some sturdy walks between tees at times. Most players ride carts on these courses , while i rarely use a cart. We used a cart one time when it was one of those stupid bestball tournaments . The fee included a cart , so we used one on a course we normally walk. When the round was over , i remember feeling really fresh and ready to play 18 more. This was one of those courses that is a bit of a trudge when walking , and it was hot that day. The difference was enormous. I have had these conversations over on the "darkside" many times over the years. The cart riders want to rationalize their use of a golf cart when they play. I understand the many reasons for riding , and there are many good ones , but you don't do much walking when you ride a cart. That's why you rented the stupid thing....to avoid walking.
Having said that....i don't give a rats behind if a guy wants to ride a cart. Just don't be an idiot with it and don't fricken tell me you are walking 80 % of the distance i am. I understand golf "managers" need the income from carts. I have been treated like a leper at more than one course for simply walking when 98 % of his golfers ride.
I'm not ranting at YOU personally Hips. Just a general rant aimed at riders who want to say it hardly matters. Ask the guys on the PGA Tour whether it is "physical" to walk 18 holes 4-6 times a week. ( And they have a guy carrying their sticks.) I played four days in a row several years ago ( when i was a very fit climber.) on three different courses in western Colorado. IT'S PHYSICAL !!! I use a pushcart when i walk now....i'm not stupid. :)

Anyone want to weigh in here..........anyone else play golf in here ? Anyone have a formula that proves they are walking almost as much as a "walker" when they ride a cart ? If you get out and walk beside the golfcart ; that's wonderful , but not really what we are talking about.

Anyone pissed that i hijacked this thread and turned it into , YET , another rant about walking versus riding ?
Either way...get out and play... have fun. Don't run over your playing partner's ankle and ruin his career. Don't fly through the parking lot and nearly take my kneecap off...like that guy did the other day. Please don't fly up to the first tee , gabbing like magpies and coming to a tire squealing stop just as some poor guy is taking the club back on his first shot of the day.

( Is he going to rant all day ?) I could go on and on....but then i would have to change my name to Barack.....and that's the noise one makes just before barfing. ( I can't believe he said that....someone should do something about this guy.) :D

Three Rants........my native American name.

Hey, what an insult. I can't believe people here in beer heaven actually drink Budlight or the same thng in Corona bottles.

Just passing on what I read. I walk when the course isn't too severe too. Remember I did 2 rounds at Bandon 8-)

Have you seen the Coors Light golf commercials? I think I've only seen it on Canadian TV during the hockey games. But it sure promotes the behavior you are talking about. One part has a jet powered cart.
