I did not get to see any of the first round of the shell open or any highlights. Was it that windy were they really had to suspend the round? I have never cancelled or ended a round regardless of how windy it has been and I have played in strong 40 MPH winds before. Why should it be any different for the pro? I don't like "suspended because of high winds"!!!

Like you I have never stopped due to wind......but sometimes I have wished I didn't start!   IMO, when it really starts to howl, it becomes a contest of luck rather than skill. I would rather see the contest of skill.

The problem they said was that they had the green speed set up to be comparable to Augusta next week.
The wind was blowing the balls off the greens.
They interviewed the PGA Tour set up guy and the greenskeeper who said if they had seen this coming they would have slowed them down enough for the balls to stay put. The set up guy said that they would have been ok with 30 mph gusts but that 40+ was over the top.

Someone in another universe said the greens were a 14 on the stimp ! They were trying to replicate the greenspeed of Augusta.
Can you imagine playing on greens that are smooth , 14 on the stimp , in a 40 mile an hour wind ? Still......guys were playing and under par........but maybe the wind was really getting worse. Maybe 14 on the stimp is a little too fast for Texas......ya think ?

That's a pretty tough set up !!! 30 mph gust are terrible let alone 40 mph. !!! The guys who went out first before it was called really paid the price !!!
